Library

Lessons

During weekly library lessons, students learn about the information process and skills with an emphasis on defining, locating and selecting information from a variety of sources. A love of quality literature is encouraged as we explore the Children's Book Council of Australia shortlist, favourite authors both old and new, and current popular titles. During Term 3 we are learning about Cybersafety.

(PRC)

The PRC is not a competition but an encouragement for children to read more widely for pleasure. We have hundreds of PRC books in the library marked with the appropriate level and ID number. Kindergarten students' PRC books are recorded for them in the library. All other students are required to complete their own reading records. If it is not possible to complete your records online, they may be written on the reading record supplied earlier this year and handed to Ms Formica. All reading records must be completed online or handed in by 23 August, 2013.

Number of books required:

K-2
3-4
5-6
30 books (including 5 choice books)
20 books (including 5 choice books)
20 books (including 5 choice books)

All students who complete the challenge receive a certificate at the end of the year. A Gold certificate is awarded to students who complete the challenge four years in a row. A Platinum certificate is awarded to students who complete the challenge seven years in a row. A PRC medal is awarded to students who complete the challenge each year from Year 3 to 9.

Library @ Lunch

The library is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday second half of lunch for games, computers, colouring in and drawing.

Library Monitors

Fifteen Year 4 students are selected each year to help in the library. They do a fantastic job of running our lunchtime activities, shelving books and keeping the library tidy. They are our very own little shelf elves.
